Development pillars
How it works

How an athlete develops here.

Development covers six pillars: technical, tactical, mental, physical, nutrition and education. The plan decides which lead.

01

Assessment first

Every athlete starts with an assessment. It ends with written development priorities — whether they continue or not.

02

One plan per athlete

The plan is set from the assessment and held by the director. It travels with the athlete, not with any one coach.

03

The right coach for the work

Sessions are taken by the coach best suited to what the athlete is working on. Nobody repeats their history to a new face.

Philosophy

What we coach by.

Four things no coach here trades away, whatever the athlete is working on.

01

A player who understands the fault can fix it alone.

Being told what to do works while the coach is watching. Understanding why works afterwards.

02

Two priorities beat ten.

A block that tries to fix everything changes nothing. The assessment picks what leads.

03

Progress is uneven, and saying so is part of the job.

Some blocks change a game and some are flat. A flat block is reported as a flat block.

04

Preparation can be promised. Selection cannot.

No coach controls a selector. What is on offer is a player who is ready to be picked.

Safeguarding

What every coach signs up to.

Parents are trusting strangers with their child. These are the rules that make the strangers accountable.

A code of conduct, signed

Every coach agrees to the academy code of conduct when they register. No exceptions, including the director.

Vulnerable Sector Check

A police Vulnerable Sector Check is required before a coach takes youth sessions.

Named coaches only

Every coach who takes a session here is named on this site. No anonymous fill-ins.
